We write in response to your December 12, 2019 request for information pursuant to the Rhode Island Access to Public Records Act (APRA). Your specific request is noted below along with our corresponding response.
Pursuant to R.I.G.L. 12-25-30.1 and the Access to Public Records Act, I respectfully request the full disclosure of any 'Application for Compensation' made by a [withheld] under criminal case no. [withheld]. As said statute specifically states: "[t]he application and the notice of award or denial shall be deemed public records."
Please see the attached document responsive to your request. Please note that some information has been redacted pursuant to R.I. Gen. Laws § 38-2-2(4)(A)(I)(b) as it contains personal individually identifiable records, the disclosure of which would constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.
If you contend you have been denied access to public records, pursuant to R.I.G.L. § 38-2-8, you may appeal this decision to Amy Crane, General Counsel, 50 Service Avenue, 2nd Floor, Warwick, RI 02886. You may also file a complaint with the Department of the Attorney General, 150 South Main Street, Providence, RI 02903 or the Rhode Island Superior Court of the county where the records are maintained.
